Schalke fired coach Frank Kramer today, following the team’s 5-1 defeat to Hoffenheim in the German Cup.
In addition to today’s Cup exit, Schalke have won just once in ten games and are currently 17th in the Bundesliga after winning the second division last season.
The club thanked Kramer “for his professional and dedicated work” in a statement issued today.
When it became clear that Schalke’s top-flight position was under threat, sporting director Rouven Schroeder said action had to be taken.
“After promotion, we all agreed on one goal: to stay in the Bundesliga.” We were convinced right up until the end that we could turn the tide in the current situation.”
