According to British defense authorities, Belarus is unlikely to soon join Russia in the conflict in Ukraine.
In response to what he described as rising tensions on the nation’s western frontiers, the country’s president, Alexander Lukashenko, declared earlier this month that a joint regional grouping of 70,000 Belarusian troops and up to 15,000 Russians would be formed.
Although Belarus’ proximity to the north of Ukraine served as a launching pad for Russia’s invasion in February, Belarus has so far refrained from taking a direct part in the conflict in Ukraine.
