Because of OPEC+’s agreement to restrict oil output last week, the Biden administration intends to “re-evaluate” America’s eight-decade-old friendship with Saudi Arabia. However, the White House posturing seems to be an attempt to divert attention away from the domestic consequences of Washington’s inability to pursue a successful transition to clean energy.
Blaming Saudi Arabia, OPEC+, or Vladimir Putin for an energy crisis caused by a strategy of transitioning from carbon fuels to “clean energy” based on what seem to be utopian assumptions is deceptive. Unlike Japan or China, the United States can generate significantly more oil than it uses. The oil prices that Americans pay are the result of decisions taken by their politicians.
