Center increases social media monitoring in the face of rising radicalization content

The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed police heads of state and union territories to compile a list of fugitives and operatives whose names have surfaced in investigations, in light of raids and investigations being conducted by the National Investigation Agency on activities linked to terror modules and radicalization, and to keep a strict eye on the social media platforms that are being used by these criminals supported by Pakistan to mobilize and influence impressionable people.

It was previously thought that these activities were only restricted to the J&K region, but raids and a crackdown have shown that radicalization is a widespread activity present in more than 20 Indian states, with handles and local operatives using Pak-prepared literature and content on social media platforms like WhatsApp.

In one of the most recent chargesheets submitted by the NIA in Patna, the fact that Pakistani officials actively participate in radicalizing Indian youth and inspiring them to join militant organizations like LeT and JeM was brought to light.

The NIA claimed that the accused Danish was the administrator of the WhatsApp group “Ghazwa E Hind,” which was started by a Pakistani man named Zain. The group included many people from Yemen and Pakistan as well as from India, with the goal of radicalizing and forming them into sleeper cells for carrying out terrorist activities.

The aforementioned “Ghazwa E Hind” group was started by Danish on various social media networks, including WhatsApp, Telegram, and Blip Messenger.

Concerns are also raised by a recent case that the NIA is currently investigating further and involves a Delhi-based tout who has been obtaining work permits for Indian technicians and laborers in Islamic nations by procuring secure SIM cards using their Aadhar cards.An officer stated: “The tout got new numbers based on the documentation of visa applicants – without their knowledge of course – and assisted Pak handles get whatsapp activated on their handsets and gadgets by passing on the verification codes.

Additionally, the recent arrest of Abdul Khaleem and three of his associates in February by a special investigation team looking into the Hyderabad terror case has revealed that the accused has been associated with numerous cases of anti-Indian activities, including funding terrorism, energizing sleeper cells, and also providing support for radicalization activities. Investigations have revealed that the accused had been in contact with two suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba members who fled to Pakistan from this country, Siddique Bin Osman and Farhatullah Ghori.
