It is a truth universally acknowledged that the bond between fathers and daughters is one of the most precious life has to offer. With baby girls, many new dads are aware of the extra care they have to take in nurturing, safeguarding and raising their daughters.
They have to be sensitive to their little girls’ needs, some of which they may not even understand. Many are able and willing to do everything they can to make their daughters’ lives as perfect and happy as possible as the most important man in the little girls’ childhood.
But how many of them are prepared to learn the dance sequence to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies,” squeeze themselves into a revealing skintight leotard, perform the dance in front of actual people, and consent to it all being filmed and posted online?
The answer to that question is exactly one, and that one dad goes by the name of Steve Haddad. Hailing from Monroe, Michigan, Steve put his doubts – and perhaps a smidge of dignity – aside to learn the intricate choreography with his two daughters who were eager to put on the performance of a lifetime. Or at least, Christmas time.
So in December 2017, Steve did what many fathers would likely not do. He pulled on his dancing catsuit to cut a rug on his living room floor alongside his talented daughters.
With their game faces on, the trio – particularly Steve – held nothing back as they proceeded to give their non-paying guests a performance none of them would ever forget.
Steve and his wife, Tina, have always gone above and beyond with their children. It simply made sense that Steve would agree to such a heartwarming act. Steve is, simply put, one of those dads who would agree to anything just to see a smile on his daughters’ faces.
In describing Steve’s playful attitude and loving nature, Tina told Scary Mommy the family holds an annual Christmas Lip Sync battle. She explained the girls were beyond enthusiastic about performing “Single Ladies,” so much so that Steve had no choice but to take their request seriously despite his initial doubts. Tina said he even went to a choreographer to ensure he had the routine down and would not disappoint his little princesses.
“The girls were trying to come up with a brilliant idea to beat the competition which in this family it’s tough,” she told the outlet.
“I threw out the Beyoncé single ladies video. The girls BEGGED him and because he loves to make us laugh, through much nagging on our part he agreed.”
Steve and his daughters ended up practicing the routine for weeks prior to actually giving their performance. But Tina was in for the absolute shock of her life when she saw her husband in a leotard on the day of the performance. He hadn’t practiced in one, so she had no idea that he was truly going to go all out for the battle.
And the results were as spectacular as could possibly be. And the best part? Everything was captured on film.
In a video of the performance uploaded to Tina’s Facebook page, Steve, in his leotard, is seen nailing almost every move. Despite the uproarious laughter from the audience, Steve appeared committed to the dance and never once stopped trying to keep up with his fellow performers. While the audience is stunned and tickled at the start of the clip, it is clear that Steve was fully committed and despite missing a beat every now and then, never completely faltered throughout the almost three-minute long routine. By the end of the dance, it was plain to see the lengths Steve was willing to go to make his daughters happy.
“You asked you received… Haddad Lip Sync contest. Stay back girls he’s all mine!!! #BESTDAD #Beyonce #allthesingleladies #christmaslipsync,” Tina captioned the video.
Since it was uploaded, the clip has racked up a momentous 38 million views and inspired more than 126,000 reactions on Facebook.
“Awesome!!!! I have to show my husband and let him know he needs to step up his game!!!” one viewer commented.
Another tickled viewer wrote: “Please add a disclaimer next time – coffee just shot out my nose and I think I may have peed a little. HILARIOUS!!!”
Tina later told Scary Mommy she was “overwhelmed” by the public’s reaction, saying “I’ve NEVER posted videos or photos of my kids public. I only did it so the family could share it with their friends. (I’m) overwhelmed. I’ve received so many positive messages from people who have had hard knocks and said thank you for the two minutes of laughter.”
And just so you know, Steve and his daughters won the annual competition that year!
