Pope Francis conducts Easter Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square to commemorate Christ’s resurrection as the Church celebrates the most joyous day of the liturgical year.
On Easter Sunday morning, St. Peter’s Square was crowded with more than 45,000 pilgrims.
Tens of thousands of flowers from the Netherlands decorated the steps leading to the Vatican Basilica, joining Catholic worshipers in continuing an annual tradition that began in 1985.
Easter Sunday, also known as the Solemnity of the Resurrection of the Lord, was celebrated with a Mass officiated by Pope Francis.
As he had already provided his views the previous evening, the Pope did not give a sermon during the Sunday morning Mass.
Pope Francis thought of the women’s astonishment and excitement during the Easter Vigil Service. The ladies discovered an empty tomb and an angel informing them that Jesus had been raised from the dead instead of his dead body.

“The women hurriedly left the tomb, worried but delighted, and ran to tell his followers,” the Pope wrote.
Likewise, he continued, Easter ought to inspire all Christians “to roll aside the headstone in which we so frequently imprison our hope and to gaze fearlessly to the future, for Christ has risen and changed the course of history.”
Pope Francis stated that despite our mundane routines, we must use Easter to “relive the beauty of that moment when we realized he was alive.”
