Igor Girkin, also known as Strelkov, the former defense minister of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic, thinks the Russian army failed in the two-month-long onslaught on Bakhmut, which turned into a slaughterhouse for the Russian troops. Despite significant losses among the Russian soldiers and the Wagner mercenaries, the city was never completely under the grip of the Russian army. The entire Russian “great winter attack” was a failure since Russian forces were unable to move through the Ukrainian Armed Forces-held defended districts.
Despite Yevgeny Prigozhin, the owner of the Wagner PMC, and Sergey Shoygu, the Russian Defense Minister, boasting about taking control of half of Bakhmut, Girking highlighted on his Telegram channel that the situation actually appears to be appalling for the Russian army.
Even if Bakhmut is entirely conquered, the Russian attack will halt at the newly constructed defense lines of the Ukrainian Military since the city is still not entirely under Russian control and because the Russian army is suffering such heavy losses. For a new offensive, the Russians won’t have the manpower or the resources.
I must say that the Russian Armed Forces’ winter offensive was confined to frontal assaults on the well fortified positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and it ultimately failed, according to Girkin.
The media claims that the Russian army has already lost 30,000 soldiers in the battle for Bakhmut.
