Next year, Xbox will receive 2 Age of Empires titles, including a classic.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Age of Empires IV, two Age of Empires games, will be released for Xbox systems in 2023, according to Microsoft. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Age of Empires IV will both be released in 2023, according to a blog post published on Tuesday by the game’s creator World’s Edge.

Director Emma Bridle said that despite the challenges of porting real-time strategy games to console because their game designs prefer a mouse and keyboard to a console controller, the studio listened to requests from the series’ most ardent fans to have the classic Age of Empires titles brought to Xbox. The decision was made to bring the games to Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, allowing veterans to learn how to play the games with a controller while preserving the mouse and keyboard arrangement for those who like it, given it is the 25th anniversary of the series.

We were aware that translating the complexity of RTS to Xbox systems would be a challenging endeavor, one that required meticulous planning, according to Bridle. The team has been putting a lot of effort into creating an experience that teaches gamers how to use the Xbox as well as feels excellent while using a gamepad. Players will find it easier to get started with a new tutorial made exclusively for controller input and a revamped console user interface. Additionally, we’ve included new game AI that makes resource management in a strategic game efficient and clear.

There are 83 maps, 42 multiplayer civilizations, 34 single-player campaigns, 10 multiplayer modes, and 7 co-op campaigns in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, which was first released in 2019.
