The White House announced on Wednesday that North Korea is covertly supplying Russia with artillery ammunition as yet another US foe steps up to support Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
Pyongyang was supplying the Kremlin’s forces with “a significant number of artillery shells while obfuscating the real destination of the arms shipments by trying to make it appear as though they are being sent to countries in the Middle East or North Africa,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told CNN in a statement.
Russia had requested rockets and artillery shells from the rogue regime, US intelligence officers first disclosed in September, but North Korea had publicly denied that it would fulfill the request, Kirby added.
Kirby did not go into detail regarding the evidence the US possessed.
