Having experienced having a house burn down while his wife was inside, Mr. Biden has previously brought up the subject.
The local Delaware fire chief was quoted as claiming “the incident was under control in 20 minutes” in news accounts from the time, which referred to it as little more than “a little fire that was restricted to the kitchen.”
The tale is hardly the only instance of embellishment.
