No married couple is perfect, but many of them will tell you that they’ve developed certain “tricks” over the years that help to keep their marriage going strong. From sharing the daily driving privileges all the way down to splitting up the monthly bills, there are a ton of different tactics that couples employ in order to keep the peace.
The best examples of these marriage saving strategies usually come from the people who have been married the longest. One such couple spent an astounding 60 years of their lives together, and when the woman was told by her doctor one day that she didn’t have much time left to live, she finally decided to reveal the incredible secret trick that she’d been relying on for all this time.
After spending six decades together, you would think that the unnamed husband and wife duo would know all about each other’s hidden secrets. However, this particular bride needed to keep just one thing all to herself. On the top shelf of her closet was an old shoebox, and she always made her husband swear that he would never ask about it or look inside of it – which was definitely no easy task! Though somehow, her husband always showed great restraint, and he lovingly followed his wife’s one and only request.
Still, this didn’t stop him from constantly wondering about what exactly could be hidden inside the box, but he had taken a sworn oath to her privacy, and he fully intended on keeping his word.
Many years later, when his wife eventually fell ill and didn’t have much time left, he began the process of sorting through her final affairs. One thing on the list, of course, was what exactly she wanted to do with her very mysterious shoe box.
He consulted his dear wife for her opinion, and her response left him completely surprised. After all this time, her wish was for him to finally open it and see what was inside. So, with some hesitation, he carefully removed the lid.
Resting inside of the box were a few curious items – including a pair of crocheted dolls that she had woven all by herself. That wasn’t all, though. The dolls also just happened to be sitting on top of $95,000 in cash! But where on earth had all of the money come from?
She explained to him that many years ago, right before they were going to get married, her grandmother had shared with her the secret to living a long and happy life together with your partner.
The secret? To simply never have an argument. In order to achieve this, she instructed her granddaughter that rather than yelling or fighting with her husband over an issue, she should instead remain quiet and begin to crochet a doll to relieve her stress.
The man was confused. How could that be possible? Was she only ever angry with him a grand total of two times in 60 years? Suddenly, he began to feel a great sense of pride at how well their relationship had held up over the years. However, there was one thing that he still could not grasp – where had all of the money come from?
With a smile, she winked at him and explained “That’s the money that I made from selling all of the other dolls!”
