The vice chair of the House select committee looking into the January 6, 2021 uprising, Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, said the group would prefer to avoid a “circus” if former President Donald Trump complies with the subpoena and testifies.
In an interview with NBC News on Sunday, Cheney stated that she anticipates Trump will abide by a committee subpoena requiring the former president to testify and turn over certain papers to investigators. Cheney stated that the committee intends to take Trump’s testimony “very seriously.”
We will move on with the former President’s sworn interrogation, Cheney declared. It might take many days, but it will be completed with the rigor, discipline, and seriousness it requires.
When asked if Trump would consider giving a public testimony, Cheney responded that the committee would take his testimony “very seriously.”
Trump won’t make this into a circus, according to Cheney. “This won’t be his first debate versus Joe Biden and the spectacle and food fight that that turned into, you know. This group of problems is far too significant.
Following its public announcement of its desire to do so at its most recent meeting earlier this month, the committee last week sent its subpoena to Trump’s attorneys. The subpoena requires Trump to attend for “one or more days of deposition testimony beginning on or about November 14” and to provide documents to the committee by November 4.
