Unusual snowstorm warnings as the Midwest recovers from a strong winter storm in Southern California

On Friday, a sluggish winter storm delivered snow, rain, and strong winds to the West, causing Southern California to issue a rare blizzard warning.

The San Diego National Weather Service issued his first-ever blizzard warning, predicting 3 to 5 feet of snow in the San Bernardino County mountains through Saturday morning.

As of Saturday afternoon, blizzard warnings had also been issued for Los Angeles and Ventura counties. It may snow up to 5 feet, with some outlying places perhaps receiving 7 to 8 feet. On February 4, 1989, the National Weather Service’s Los Angeles office issued its final snowfall warning.

In the San Gabriel Mountains near the Angeles Crest Highway, an automobile became trapped in the snow on February 24, 2023, in La Canada, California.

It will be an unusually chilly storm system with very little snow accumulation. In fact, the National Das weather agency warned early Friday that snowfall could happen in locations that are very close to the Pacific coast as well as in rural valleys that are not accustomed to experiencing snow.
