USA Boxing exits the IBA and seeks membership in a new global organisation

News that the USA has formally taken a side in the current power struggle in the sport has shocked the boxing community.

World Boxing, a new organization that recently started, intends to replace the International Boxing Association (IBA), which has been in charge of amateur boxing for decades, and take over as the world’s amateur boxing’s regulatory body.

The goal of World Boxing is to expand its membership, establish a governing body, and carry out the duties currently carried out by the IBA on behalf of any other international sporting federation.

The reason? to “secure the interests of boxers” and “keep boxing at the core of the Olympic movement.” The activity is not an Olympic sport, as is widely recognized.News that the USA has formally taken a side in the current power struggle in the sport has shocked the boxing community.
