Visits to Minnesota by Vice President Kamala Harris for an abortion event and a governor Tim Walz fundraising

Two weeks before the midterm elections, Vice President Kamala Harris arrived in the Twin Cities on Saturday. She used the opportunity to urge students and state officials to “take up the movement” for reproductive rights that began more than 50 years ago.

The latest in a series of moderated discussions that Harris has done since a draft ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court signaling their intentions to overturn Roe v. Wade emerged in May, Harris made her first stop in Minnesota on Saturday. The decision forced the abortion access debate back into the hands of the individual states and into the thick of a divisive election.

“We are witnessing a deliberate limitation of rights. What does that indicate about the course and direction of our nation?” Harris remarked at Metropolitan State University’s St. Paul campus.

“This seemingly one issue, which is actually chock full of issues that should worry us, has such huge implications.”

Despite the fact that the event wasn’t advertised as a campaign event, Harris constantly emphasized to the crowd that “there is an election in 17 days.” She then gave a speech at a fundraiser in Minneapolis for DFL Governor Tim Walz, who is running for re-election.
