Without Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, the Pelicans defeat the Mavericks.

Without their starting lineup of Herb Jones, Brandon Ingram, and Zion Williamson on Tuesday night’s game against the Dallas Mavericks, the New Orleans Pelicans could have easily disappointed their fans.

Instead, Luka Doncic’s possible game-winning 3-point shot at the buzzer was blocked by the Pelicans (3-1) as they prevailed 113-111.

Coach Willie Green of the Pelicans commented, “A lot of prayers on that last one because my angle, it looked fantastic.” Thank God he failed to arrive.

The Pelicans had to make some adjustments to their game plan against Dallas because they were missing two of their top scoring players in Williamson and Ingram as well as their top defensive defender in Jones.

In an effort to prevent Doncic from making some of his 3-pointers and shots in the fourth quarter, the Pelicans did their best to wear him down. Doncic shot 16-of-30 overall but was 2-of-13 on 3s and 2-of-6 overall in the fourth quarter while missing all four of his fourth-quarter 3-point attempts.
