Long-distance couples can exchange virtual smooches with a remote kissing device

A remote kissing device is being sold by a Chinese startup that enables lovers who are separated by distance to exchange their kisses using a smartphone app.

The Remote Kiss device, developed by the Changzhou Vocational Institute of Mechatronic Technology, makes use of a set of silicon lips to simulate the pressure, movement, and temperature of a kiss, which is then reproduced by an associated device via a smartphone app.

“In my university, my girlfriend and I were in a long-distance relationship, thus our only means of communication was the phone.

That is where this invention got its idea from,” The device’s development team was led by Jiang Zhongli, according to China’s official Global Times.

The $41 device, which is marketed on the Chinese marketplace Taobao, includes a feature in the software that allows users to send anonymous strangers kisses.

The device was given a patent by the Changzhou Vocational Institute of Mechatronic Technology in 2019, however it ran out in 2023. Jiang expressed his hope that now, additional designers will be able to enhance the final product.
