Seven sheep who were discovered running loose in New Jersey following what appeared to be a slaughterhouse escape will find a new permanent home at a sanctuary, according to animal control officers.
According to Paterson Animal Control, a call concerning many sheep stumbling around the streets came in at around 5 a.m. on Monday.
When an officer arrived, he only discovered one sheep, which was sent to the city’s shelter.
Three more sheep were picked up in response to a second report about 6:30 a.m.
Animal control officer John DeCando told TAPinto Paterson that they were challenging to capture. “Yet, the crew was able to capture the fugitives with the aid of snare poles. Before being transported to the shelter, one was placed inside a police car, another inside the animal shelter’s van, and the third inside yet another police vehicle.
An additional sheep was seen trying to enter a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts, while a fifth sheep was caught outside a Sealy Mattress store in Paterson.
Before being securely gathered, the seventh sheep strayed all the way to Fair Lawn.
According to DeCando, the sheep most likely escaped from a slaughterhouse on River Street.
