Three bison elude a farm in Maine; two are captured

When three of the animals were spotted roaming free on a road on Monday, authorities in Maine reported that one bison was still at large on Tuesday.

According to Fort Fairfield police, at least three bison burst through a broken fence on Monday and ran loose in the Presque Isle and Fort Fairfield region.

On a road in Fort Fairfield, the creatures were seen on camera darting through the flow of traffic.

Two of the bison, according to the police, were put back in their pens on Monday, while the third one remained free Tuesday.

According to police, 10 bison ran off from the same property last year, forcing the Quoggy Jo Ski Center and Nordic Heritage Center to temporarily close.

Police said the most recent escape could result in the owner being charged with trespass by livestock.

The bison’s fence was repaired with help from volunteers.
